Background
The protein encoded by this gene is an RNA-binding nuclear protein that is a tumor-rejection antigen. This antigen possesses tumor epitopes capable of inducing HLA-A24-restricted and tumor-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes in cancer patients and may be useful for specific immunotherapy. This gene product is found to be an important cellular factor for HIV-1 gene expression and viral replication. It also associates transiently with U6 and U4/U6 snRNPs during the recycling phase of the spliceosome cycle. This encoded protein is thought to be involved in the regulation of mRNA splicing. Function
disease:Defects in SART3 are the cause of disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis type 1 (DSAP1) [MIM:175900]. DSAP1 is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterized by multiple superficial keratotic lesions surrounded by a slightly raised keratotic border, developing during the third or fourth decade of life on sun-exposed areas of skin.,function:Regulates Tat transactivation activity through direct interaction. May be a cellular factor for HIV-1 gene expression and viral replication.,PTM:Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.,similarity:Contains 2 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains.,similarity:Contains 8 HAT repeats.,subcellular location:Localized in speckles. Expressed in the nucleus of all of the malignant tumor cell lines tested and the majority of cancer tissues with various histologies, including squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), adenocarcinomas, melanomas a
